The Independent Doctors Federation (IDF) is the most innovative, forward thinking and active independent medical practitioner organisation in Great Britain.  We are recognised as the nationwide voice of Independent Doctors in all matters relating to private medicine, their education and revalidation.

The IDF has close links with the Department of Health, Care Quality Commission, General Medical Council, British Medical Association, Royal Colleges and all the major private insurance companies and private hospitals.

Members of the IDF regularly stand for election to the Private Practice Committee (PCC) of the BMA and are co-opted by the chair of the PPC to occupy seats on the committee that are reserved according to the committee constitution for primary care doctors in predominantly private practice.  The IDF has representation on the RCGP Revalidation Stakeholders Committee and is currently in discussions with the Department of Health about appointing its own Responsible Officer for Revalidation purposes.

The IDF offers appraisal to its members modelled on the NHS system which is recognised by the GMC.  It seeks to work in a spirit of harmonious co-operation with the NHS and offer choice to patients.  Many IDF members work in both the NHS and the Independent Sector.
