Future of Revalidation - Message from Dr Stuart Sanders, IDF Responsible Officer Elect
Dear Colleague
You will by now no doubt have seen in the press various headlines about the future of revalidation following the publication of a letter from the new Secretary of State Andrew Lansley to Peter Rubin, chair of the GMC. Please click
here to read both the letter from Andrew Lansley and Peter Rubin's statement in reply.
The IDF supports Andrew Lansley's view that piloting should be extended to ensure that the final system is cost effective and minimises bureaucracy. It echoes many of the concerns the IDF has already raised. It is also heartening to see that the independent sector is included in the first line of his letter.
There are two important points that I would like to bring to your attention as IDF Responsible Officer Elect:
1. With regard to Responsible Officers: the regulations are going ahead and should be in place later this year.
2. Even though Revalidation is being postponed we would still encourage our members to undergo annual appraisal, as appraisal will form a pivotal constituent part of Revalidation.
We will continue to update you on progress.
With kind regards
Dr Stuart Sanders
Chairman of ISAAC & IDF Responsible Officer Elect
