IDF Responsible Officer Elected
The appointment of Dr Stuart Sanders as the IDF’s elected Responsible Officer was announced at the IDF AGM on 21st April 2010. Dr Sanders said: “I am very proud to have been appointed the Responsible Officer (RO) of the IDF. It is an exciting and challenging role – one that I intend to perform efficiently and fairly.
The key responsibilities of the RO are as follows:
· Establish an electronic platform for IDF Appraisals
· Report to Council and the ISAAC Committee, and advise on revalidation matters
· Periodically assess members’ appraisals, reporting to the GMC on their fitness to be relicensed
· Process complaints brought to the IDF, and endeavour to achieve resolution
To that end, my first and important duty is to remind members that the revalidation procedure, based on five years’ enhanced appraisals, will soon be a reality. Therefore, Members who have not been appraised should do so as soon as possible so that they can be re-licensed.
Over twenty years ago, four doctors started the IDF as an informal supper club. Since then, it has gone from strength-to-strength and now has over 800 members. I am delighted and proud to continue to serve our impressive, influential, and meaningful organisation.” It is anticipated that the legislation to put the appointment legally into force will go through parliament in June 2010. In his new role, Dr Sanders will take over from Mr Ian Mackay as head of the IDF ISAAC Committee (Independent Sector Assessment & Advisory Committee)
