In response to the member feedback request sent out in November 2020 where the need for a support group was confirmed by a number of members, IDF is in the process of setting up its Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Support Group.
The aim of this support group is to create a safe channel/space for BAME members to share with a sense that their experiences will be understood, heard, acknowledged without any judgement, and with genuine concern and care by those who are more likely to have experienced similar issues and challenges themselves. The group will provide feedback, support and guidance on how to manage, dismantle barriers that have hindered day to day interactions with other colleagues and personal/professional development.
The support group will be initially facilitated by Snéha Khilay from Blue Tulip Consultancy. Snéha is a specialist expert in Diversity and Inclusion and a qualified executive coach. She has facilitated sessions for a number of organisations including UN, NHS, Ministry of Defence law firms, financial services, universities etc. The sessions, within the frame of confidentiality, will explore the shared lived experiences of any issues that colleagues from a BAME background face in a professional setting, with the group providing input through signposting, possible resolution of these issues and support for wellbeing. It is anticipated that in time support sessions will be facilitated by the Group Chair. The Group Chair will also become a member of the DIBS Group.
This first session will include the following:
